Here Is How To Apply In-Person:

Follow these steps to apply for your drivers license in Ghana

  1. To apply for Driving Permit in Ghana the applicant has to approach the Ghana Driver and Vehicle Licensing authority (DVLA) office. Here is the  contact link.
  2. Then, the applicants can get their application form for Driving Permit.
  3. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
  4. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
  5. Make all necessary payments to obtain application forms and all other necessary documents.
    • Form F GH₵ 2.50
    • Form F1 GH₵ 12.50
    • Eye Test GH₵ 5.00
  6. After submission of the forms the authority will proceed to an eye test for applicant.
  7. If applicant pass the eye and physical test, then applicant will be issued with a
    • learner’s plate (L plate)
    • learners license
    • Highway Code
    • Learners License Booklet
  8. Applicant will have to pay the following fees for the permit, plate, syllabus and Highway Code.
    • Learners License Booklet GH₵ 2.50
    • Learners Plate GH₵ 23.00
    • Highway Code GH₵ 5.00
    • Syllabus for Learner Drivers GH₵ 5.00
  9. After that you are required to enrol to any recognized driving college for training which must accumulate to 48 hours of driving.
  10. For those who have expired learner’s license, a written exam is conducted for him/her and drivers must score 70% or more in order to pass.
  11. Visit the DVLA to schedule for a written test. You will have required paying the written test a fee of GH₵ 5.00.
  12. Your biometric information will also be captured during this process. This will cost GH₵ 4.00.
  13. Visit the DVLA to take your Written exams (Computer-Based Test).
  14. After the written exam, you will be required to take an In-Traffic Test which involves identification and explanation of several road signs and as soon as that expired.
  15. Test on road signs and markings, general questions on the country for which the permit is to be issued. Issuance of international driving permit.
  16. After completing and passing all the exams you are required to pay for a temporary driver’s license. You are given a date to return to the authority. On the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor.
  17. The details to appear in your driver’s licenses will also be captured during this visit.
  18. After completing all the process, the applicant is given a date to return to the authority. On the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor to turn in for a drivers license.
  19. Applicant will be issued with a driver’s license and a P-Plate after turning in your temporary driver’s license.
  20. Generally, the processing time for this procedure 2 weeks.
