Vincent KoJo Oppong Nkrumah (KON) is a Ghanaian politician, lawyer, broadcast journalist, and entrepreneur. He is the current Minister of Information and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Before venturing into full-time politics, Kojo Oppong used to be the host of  Joy FM’s Super Morning Show in Accra, Ghana.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Age & Date Of Birth

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah currently 40 years of age as he was born on Monday, April 5th, 1982.

Early Life Challenges, Parents, Family

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was born to teacher turned banker father, Mr. Kwame Oppong Nkrumah and Madam Felicia Oppong Nkrumah. Kojo Oppong has two brothers and a sister and was born in Koforidua. His hometown is Akim Anyinase in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

His parents who were both teachers resided on the campus of Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) in Koforidua. Growing up as a kid who was a stammerer and had a speech problem, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah suffered a lot as his friends would tease and laugh at him anytime he attempted to speak.

Another tough moment for Kojo growing up as kid and his family — which suddenly moved from grace to grass — was when his father was involved in a near fatal accident. Life became unbearable for his family and they had to sell some of their properties to cover his father’s bills and also serve as a means of upkeep for the family.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah JHS, SHS & University Education

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah began his basic education at the Pentecost Preparatory School in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. When his parents relocated to Mataheko, Accra from Koforidua, Kojo continued his education at St. Bernadette Soubirous School in Dansoman, Accra for his primary and Junior High School education.

For his senior high school education, Kojo attended Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary — an all-boys boarding school, located at Effiduase, Koforidua, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. In 2000, and whilst at Pope John Senior High School, Kojo who became the Senior School Prefect and an active member of the Writers and Debaters Club, led his team of debaters to win at the Independence Day debate for senior high schools.

In 2005, he proceeded to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Degree in Accounting. In 2012, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah graduated with an Executive  MBA (EMBA) in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School.

In 2014, the former “Super Morning Show” host was awarded a Bachelor of Laws Degree (abbreviated LL.B) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Faculty of Law after two years of studies.

In 2016, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana after obtaining a Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he had completed a Fellowship of the African Leadership Initiative.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Marriage & Personal Life: Wife Akua, Children, Sports, Religion

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah happily got married to his sweetheart, madam Akua Osae-Addae now known as Akua Oppong Nkrumah in a secrete wedding at Lashibi in Accra in early 2011.

The two are blessed with three (3) children — two boys (Kwaku and Kofi), and one girl (Afua). Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is a Christian and a member of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Evangel Temple in New Dawhenya, Accra where he worships. In terms of sports, Kojo loves football and these are his favourite football teams: Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s Black Stars, and Manchester United.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Career: Radio & TV Broadcasting, Micro Finance Company

In 2006, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah began working as a Treasury Analyst at British American Tobacco.He later joined Multimedia’s Kokomelemele-based Joy FM where he established himself as one of the best broadcast journalists in Ghana after the late Komla Dumor left Joy FM for Bush House, London in 2006 to begin working at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

His sheer brilliance, cleverness, excellent communication skills, and command over the Queen’s language set him apart from his competitors in the radio industry, and also endeared him to the ardent listeners of Joy FM.

Before he left Joy FM for full-time politics, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah served as the host for Joy Fm’s flagship current affairs program, News File which is currently anchored by Lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini.

In 2014, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah quit Radio/TV broadcasting after 10 years of service to establish a private equity firm known as West BrownStone Capital.

He also co-founded the Development Research and Advocacy organization; Centre for Development in Freedom (CDIF).

Politics: Minister Of Information Of Ghana

In 2015, Kojo Oppong was declared the ultimate winner after contesting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

In 2016, he won the Ofoase-Ayirebi parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party during the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

In 2018, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was elevated from the Deputy Minister of Information position to the substantive Minister of Information position, replacing his boss and trusted aide of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid.

He also served as a member of the Finance and Constitutional committees of the 7th Parliament of Ghana and was the Cabinet spokesperson on the Economy.

On Friday March 5th, 2021, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was sworn in by President Akufo-Addo as the substantive Minister of Information after he had been vetted and approved by Parliament.
